Because Wordpress has shoddy coding, I think. I fixed it (it was a copy/paste error I thought I fixed but apparently did not).

i was kind of dissapointed. I watched the whole thing and i got the whole piece thing. I know apart of gundam is the constantly switch sides and it could be because i got a bad translation. But i felt it was very clear. The ending fight seemed unecessary. They could have gone so much deeper wit this. Like the corporal, he was from the dark history but they didnt flesh out his character very well. Sochie got the shaft, she wanted Loran from day one, it just seemed very inconstant with Lorans character, i dont feel that Loran the way they portrayed him would have broken Souchies heart like that, I really hope he married the queen at the end because if he didnt based on the character i saw in the show he probably would have taken Souchie with him. Also the combat sucked, it was like going to a strip club , having a stripper show boob then covering up and walking off stage.

So great its not about the fight, then the politics really sucked. Guin doesnt really seem to have a way with peope because he gets betrayed way too much.

It very much heartens me to know I've yet to see the best of this particular version; 70s shoujo never ceases to amaze me with its power to constantly top itself in the most unexpected way possible. It's already deviated majorly from the basic progression I envisioned, and that's a good thing.

The voice acting is pretty good--I always think it's the hardest thing to play an actor, as then you're an actor playing an actor playing a role, which is some kind of insane meta-acting going on. The fact that it's done at ALL is seriously impressive.

I second avoiding the 1984 version, because in contrast to this wonderful series, it is a really horrible adaptation. It cuts out major plot events, has horrible voice-acting and really fails to put any depth into its acting.

But yeah, this is a great series, and you haven't even seen the best yet. It's a great in-depth look at acting that changed the way I look at this business.

Thanks for this. Congratulations to Crunchy for running this excellent show. I've watched or read pretty well everything Glass Mask (manga, drama, two animes), and you can forget about the 1985 adaptation. This is the anime version to watch. Real art.

I'd like to mention the voice actresses who play Maya and her rival Ayumi. This show is about acting, so it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the voice actors to do something special -- and they do.

Kobayashi Sanae plays Maya. Kobayashi-san comes from an acting background, has had a long-running gig as Allan Walker in D. Gray-man, and was Reiko in Natsume Yuujinchou. But her real profession is dubbing foreign films and TV in Japanese: she is the voice of Mischa Barton and Christina Ricci, among many others.

Yajima Akiko is Ayumi, and almost out-acts Maya in many scenes. Yajima-san is a veteran seiyuu whose main role is as funny-voiced Shin-chan in the long-running family hit Crayon Shin-chan. But she can act seriously, and among her many other roles are Kuu in Haibane Renmei and Mari in Blue Drop.

Bakemonogatari is NISIOISIN + SHAFT, which is like the One True Pairing of the gods, so...

I don't think anyone's seen enough of Trapeze to really make any valid judgements on it (other than "this sure is trippy"), but from what I remember of Mononoke (which I really need to go finish up like I've been intending to do for years now) that was more of "let's tell a good yarn with some crazy animation direction" and Trapeze seems like it'll follow that "let's tell some yarns" rather than make any super-profound point. You can always watch Paprika for your super-profound point.
